Assignment 3
Have your students get into groups of about 6 people each. There will be two parts to the assignment and both can be done in the groups. The first part has the students looking at a different type of cell (one of the types of neurones or Glial cells, depending on how many groups you have. They are going to give some key information about that cell type, its function, its size, how it fits into the nervous system as a whole etc. They should also produce a visual representation of the cell and how they communicate with each other. The second part of the assignment will get the students up and moving, as a group they need to find a way to act out the way in which nerve cells communicate with each other. They will have nearly a full class to come up with how they want to represent the process, and then at the end each group will present to the class for a few minutes how they chose to represent this process. This is very much just a fun activity that will allow students to show some creativity and demonstrate their learning.
