There are countless assignments that could be done to teach students about the history of neuropsychology and how the past has influenced our understanding of the brain. The discoveries continue today and we are constantly expanding our understanding of how our brain works. The Assignment looks at the historical timeline of neuropsychology, and asks the students to take a more in depth look at one of the items included. The first worksheet asks students to match a person with their discovery, or the discovery to the person, the second worksheet is a fill in the blank worksheet. There are many other assignments and worksheets that could be created for this section.

Assignment 1: The Historical Timeline
In the timeline I gave an overview of some of the most important discoveries over the last 4500 years, and the men and women who made them. There are even more to be found in the pages found on the links page for this section. Students will pick one of the people, or discoveries that have influenced our understanding of the brain and take a more in depth look at who they were and how their discovery challenged our understanding of the brain.
This assignment allows for a wide range of deliverables from your student, thereby opening it up to multiple learning styles. The final product could be handed in as a short essay, a radio or news “broadcast”, a poster board, a graphic representation, or an in person presentation. Encourage creativity in the students for example if the students decide to video a news story breaking the news of the discovery encourage them to dress up as people of the historical period may of.
The only challenge for the teacher is that it is important to provide specific rubrics that will show expectation for all of the deliverable styles. Otherwise students may make a 30 second video while someone else wrote a much more in depth essay, it is necessary to make sure the expectations are clear so that students can pick the way that works for them, and be confident in their work.
